Then there's the line item nobody mentions.
A premium brand doing $400K/month from a $200 hero SKU asked TikTok to exclude that SKU from Smart Promotion discounting. Standard move. Protects MAP. Protects brand.
The 3.5% fee still applies.
→ $400K × 3.5% = $14,000/month
→ $14,000 × 12 = $168,000/year
On a single SKU. With zero promotional benefit.
That number is the blacklist tax. It hits every premium brand on TikTok Shop the moment they protect their pricing.
Here's the asymmetry that should make every operator sit up:
→ Opt out of discounting on a SKU? Fee still applies.
→ Opt out of Smart Promotion entirely? Lose access to Flash Sale, Premium Offer, Platform Campaigns, Weekly Promos.
There is no clean exit. Only a price for staying.
Most premium brands don't realise the math until their year-end P&L lands and someone asks where the $168K went.
