Sub Same Day delivery on Amazon used to come free with qualifying orders.
Now that’s changed and shoppers are being asked to pay extra for it at checkout.
At the same time sellers can bid against each other for the warehouse spots that handle those fast deliveries instead of waiting to be allocated them.
So the cost of ultra-fast delivery is getting split two ways now - shoppers pay at checkout on one side, while sellers pay to stay in the fast-delivery lane on the other.
Speed has always been the main thing Amazon uses to keep shoppers coming back.
So if warehouse bidding gets competitive then the costs on the seller side will go up whether shoppers are willing to pay the extra delivery fee or not.
Smart sellers will be keeping an eye on how both of those costs change as we move forward.
