We went from 15 min browse sessions to two prompt retrieval to zero prompt to Auto Buy in under a year.
Gener8 just published session depth data on Amazon's Rufus. 77% of all sessions end in one or two prompts.
And it's working. Amazon says Rufus users convert 60% better than non Rufus
users. Those short sessions are people getting what they need on the first pass.
And Rufus isn't the only place this is showing up, Microsoft says Copilot shopping journeys are 33% shorter than traditional search. Walmart tried adding steps to their ChatGPT checkout and conversion dropped 3x. Amazon's Auto Buy skips the conversation entirely - zero prompts, the agent just buys for you. Interaction is compressing toward zero. Every data point says the same thing: shoppers don't want a conversation with an AI. They want to describe what they need and get the right answer back immediately. Or better yet, not describe anything at all.
That compression changes things for brands. When a shopper scrolls through
hundreds of results, a product with bad data might still get found on page three. When an agent returns five products instead of five hundred in a single pass, it either reads your data and understands what you sell or it skips you. Agentic commerce is here.
