Tim Cook is stepping down. John Ternus, hardware engineer, 25 years at Apple takes over in September.
Everyone's asking what this means for the App Store and Services revenue. Of course, my mind goes to what this means for agentic commerce.
Apple hasn't announced a single commerce product. But in the last 90 days they hired Google Shopping's VP of product, and they're about to announce multi-model Siri at WWDC, where users route queries to Claude, Gemini, or Grok instead of just ChatGPT.
Two billion devices. Apple Pay embedded. Face ID authentication. And now a routing layer that sits between every iPhone user and every AI shopping agent
on the planet.
Every other company in this space is trying to build the best shopping agent. Apple might win by never building one, just by owning the device every agent
has to run through.
A hardware CEO makes that strategy more likely, not less.
