One thing I always do before going into an interview with a brand is spend at least an hour researching them.

Not just looking at their website or ads casually - I do a quick top-level audit.

What is the brand doing in the category?

Who are the top competitors?

Where are they winning?

Where are they clearly leaving money on the table?

Within an hour, you can usually spot obvious gaps and opportunities.

Recently, while speaking with a few brand owners and heads of advertising, this approach created a very strong impression. Instead of discussing only theoretical strategies like:

"How would you optimize campaigns?"

"What would be your advertising strategy?"

…the conversation becomes much more real and practical.

Because now you can say things like:

“Here’s where your category leaders are dominating.”

“Here’s where your pricing or positioning might be hurting conversions.”

“Here’s where there’s an opportunity you might not be fully capturing.”

Anyone can talk about marketing frameworks and strategies in theory.

But the real game starts when you actually step into the arena with data.

And sometimes, just one hour of focused research can change the entire conversation. 🚀
