Apple has an open role for "Technical Product Strategist, Agentic Commerce" inside their Apple Store Online team.
It calls out infrastructure, tooling, and "agentic integrations." They're building rails so agents can shop, buy, and resolve issues inside Apple's commerce stack.
Apple doesn't need to win the LLM race to matter here. The Gemini partnership
makes that clear, they're treating the model as a swappable engine. What Apple actually wants to own: the permissioned action layer and the wallet.
Why they have a real shot:
Trust. Agentic commerce runs on "is this agent acting for me or on me?"
Privacy-first platforms get more delegation. Apple is the platform people feel
safest handing purchases to.
Wallet. The hard blocker is authentication that assumes a human is present.
Apple has Apple ID + Face ID + Apple Pay already wired together.
"Approve once, let my agent handle the rest" is theirs to lose.
Control. Apple can make agentic shopping actually work for their own
catalog - specs, compatibility, trade-in, AppleCare, delivery, returns because
they own the data and ops end to end.
Their play is becoming the most trusted agentic commerce environment inside
their ecosystem first. If that works, expanding is optional.
I dig into why trust, wallet, and distribution ownership are the durable moats
in agentic commerce in my book Instant Checkout - if you want the full
framework.
