These days, you will see many recommendations from Amazon across campaigns that say things like “Grow sales” and promise to earn more clicks with their suggestions.
The main issue is that these recommendations are often completely irrelevant to the campaign structure. If you apply them, your clicks (and spend) will increase, but there will be no sales, as the recommendations are essentially useless.
For example, in this campaign, the structure is set to use only Exact Match keywords, but the recommendations suggest a random mix of match types without any logical reasoning. Even the bids across these match types lack logic, and the best part is that 99% of the recommended keywords are irrelevant to this campaign.
In terms of bidding strategy, I have never seen an Amazon recommendation suggesting a change from “Dynamic up and down” to “Dynamic down only” or “Fixed bids.” It’s always the opposite, as the goal seems only to increase spend.
Even an intern could recommend better keywords than these. Unfortunately, many advertisers might fall for these suggestions, apply them, and end up completely messing up their accounts.
Amazon Ads — Whichever team is pushing these recommendations needs to be more strategic, responsible, and should learn proper optimization themselves in order to better help advertisers.
If you are currently optimizing based on these recommendations, you need to rethink your approach. If you need to hire an Amazon Ads Manager, use TalentHub, where you can find certified experts who can help improve your overall account performance.
