A great business isn’t built overnight.

One of the greatest privileges of being a founder is that you get to decide the pace at which you build. You can raise outside capital, bring on investors, and commit to an aggressive growth trajectory and a defined path to exit.

You can remain cash-flow positive, protect your ownership, and grow steadily year over year. Or, you can recognize that entrepreneurship, like life, has various seasons.

There will be seasons when growing the business is the top priority. And there will be seasons when family, health, or other life goals deserve more of your attention.

I don’t think enough founders talk about this. Building a meaningful company doesn’t always require maximizing growth every single year. Sometimes the real advantage of entrepreneurship is having the agency to decide what success looks like in each chapter of your life.

I recently joined Andrea Johnston on Fuel for Female Founders to talk about my experience buildingEnvision Horizons, the choices I’ve made along the way, and how my definition of growth has evolved over nearly a decade as a founder.
