If you want to rank your keywords on the Amazon SERPs, you need to pay attention to this one KPI (it's not a KPI most operators look at)...
I've managed/consulted on many Amazon brands over the years and I've seen this problem many times over.
The KPI I look at the most is placement spend mix %. I built this view right in my app AdsCrafted
Ranking on amazon is simple. The SERPs consider 2 things:
1. Highest CVR relative to your competitors. The highest CVR listing = highest rank position
2. SERP data to Amazon to prove #1.
How do you drive high CVR traffic to a target? Targeted PPC.
For SERP data, we only care about Top of Search and Rest of Search. If you are spending 50% of your spend on ROS and 50% on TOS. But your ROS CVR is 50% less than your TOS CVR. You are effectively sending a lower CVR signal to Amazon.
The simple answer is to shift the spend of your placements from ROS to TOS. Once you do this, you'll see a higher CVR on your exact match target and a climb in ranks. The only real question is whether your CVR is good enough to compete with the competitors at the top.
This data is annoying to pull out of Amazon, so I built this exact view in my app AdsCrafted) using Pivot tables and an overtime filtered area chart.
I check my placement view and click on the Top of Search row in the data table.
I now see my placements overtime with 1 click and I know my spend is sending the right traffic to give my keywords a chance to rank.
Start using PPC as a lever to drive organic rank. It will generate you the best ROI by a long shot.
