I know LinkedIn is usually full of Prime Day victory laps and screenshots of triple-digit growth, but I'll be candid: Day 1 of Prime Day felt surprisingly soft.

Don't get me wrong, we have several brands posting triple-digit YoY growth, and many of our long-term clients are having fantastic events. But across our broader portfolio, excluding a few major outliers, Day 1 sales were up about 16% YoY. Last year, that number was closer to 24%.

What's more interesting to me isn't the revenue, it's the advertising data.

Paid traffic wasn't the issue. Across our portfolio, paid search traffic was up ~50% YoY. We're still waiting for the page view data to fully load so we can understand the impact on total traffic and whether paid simply cannibalized organic visits. But one early hypothesis is that consumers are behaving differently this year.

Last year was the first four-day Prime Day. This year, shoppers know they have time.

We're seeing plenty of browsing, comparison shopping, and cart building, but not the same urgency to convert immediately. When consumers feel like they have four days to make a decision, some of that "buy now before it's gone" behavior appears to disappear.

It's still early, and a lot can change over the next three days. But the early signals suggest this year's event may be more nuanced than many of the headline growth numbers will imply.

As more data rolls in, Envision Horizons' annual Prime Day recap is shaping up to be one of our most interesting yet. We're already seeing patterns emerge that could have significant implications not just for Prime Day, but for Q4 planning, promotional strategy, media investment, and how brands think about urgency in a longer sales event.

We'll be unpacking all of this in our Prime Day Post-Mortem Webinar, where we'll share proprietary insights, including trends in traffic, conversion, ad efficiency, deal performance, category-level winners and losers, and the strategic takeaways brands should be applying before holiday planning is finalized.

The reality is that most public Prime Day reporting focuses on what happened. We're far more interested in why it happened and what brands should do differently because of it.

And for those in the trenches this week, what are you seeing after Day 1? Are your results tracking above, below, or in line with expectations?
