Are you measuring success in commerce the same way you did five years ago? 🤔

We asked that same question when we revisited our digital shelf measurement framework from 2022 and a lot has changed!

We’ve moved from the physical shelf to the digital shelf and now the agentic shelf. Yet many organizations are still measuring performance in silos, using metrics that don’t tell the full story.

That’s why I’m excited to share our latest Digital Shelf Institute research, How to Measure Success in the New Age of Commerce, created in collaboration with Profitero+! 📊

We interviewed digital commerce leaders to understand how organizations should rethink measurement across today’s evolving commerce ecosystem.

A few things we explore:

🎯 Start with your North Star. What are you actually trying to achieve, and are your KPIs aligned to that goal?

📊 Connect the dots. Traffic, conversion, content, retail media, and search shouldn’t be measured in isolation. They all contribute to business performance.

🤖 Prepare for the agentic shelf. How do you measure success when AI agents are influencing product discovery and recommendations? Traditional KPIs won’t tell the whole story.

The only constant in commerce is change, and how we measure success needs to evolve alongside it.
