I still think the new Review Request ads are super slimy and we aren't talking about it enough

I get it, yay more reviews, but here's what bothers me about it

Amazon controls every avenue to a review

You can’t incentivize one, you can’t ask in a way that sounds too hopeful, and you can’t slip a leave a review card in the box without risking your account

I’ve watched multi million dollar businesses get shut down overnight for review manipulation because an insert looked too optimistic

So Amazon starves sellers of every way to ask, then sells the one way it allows

It already charges $200 for up to 30 Vine reviews, and they’re typically lackluster and lower on average than organic reviews

That is the oldest play there is, create the scarcity, then charge for the relief

Only products with fewer than 1,000 reviews qualify, which means the brands bidding are the ones who are already hurting the most

Amazon made reviews scarce and now it sells you a chance at one
