OLIPOP PBC is hiring across ecom and digital right now and I want in. Badly.
They're already an incredible brand, but looking at their DTC business, retail footprint, and retention opportunities, I see some pretty exciting ways to take things further.
Here are 5 things we'd do at pb+j | Top-Rated DTC Growth Agency if OLIPOP PBC handed us the keys:
1) Turn 67,000+ retail locations into customer acquisition machines.
They are already rewarding customers for uploading retail receipts. Great start, but now lets take it further.
QR codes on packaging. Location specific rewards. Personalized replenishment reminders. Someone buying OLIPOP at Target should become a customer OLIPOP can build a relationship with.
Retail shouldn't be where the customer relationship ends.
2) Build the Netflix of soda subscriptions.
Forget subscribing to the same 12 pk every month. Let customers build their own rotating soda lineup.
New flavors. Surprise drops. Seasonal releases. Personalized recommendations
Make subscribers feel like members of an exclusive soda club, not people with recurring credit card charges. Retention should be driven by excitement, and not anything else.
3) Launch The Great American Soda Swap 🇺🇸
Here's where we get a little crazy.
Pull up outside major grocery stores with a giant OLIPOP truck.
Bring us your The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo, etc... and we'll trade you for OLIPOP
Film the reactions. Get creators involved. Turn every city into a competition. Which city can swap the most traditional soda? Retail traffic combined with earned media and customer acquisition.
4. Let America invent the next flavor.
American Idol meets Shark Tank meets soda.
Consumers submit flavors and then the internet votes. Finalists compete.
The winning flavor gets manufactured and sold nationally, but here's the DTC play:
Early access and exclusive voting perks for subscribers and suddenly, customers aren't just buying soda. They're helping build the brand.
5. Turn the .com into a retail growth engine.
DTC doesn't always need to win the transaction. Sometimes the most profitable conversion is getting someone to buy OLIPOP at their local grocery store.
I'd test geo targeted campaigns that send shoppers to nearby retailers, measure incremental sales, and use first party data to improve replenishment and retention.
Imagine showing a grocery buyer exactly how your digital marketing is driving velocity in their SPECIFIC stores. That's a very different conversation.
OLIPOP doesn't need another agency running Meta ads and sending monthly reports.
They need operators who can connect DTC, retail, retention, creative, and actual business outcomes.
That's exactly how we think over here at PB+J.
And yes, I'm completely serious about driving a truck around America trading people soda.
Let's make some noise!!!
