Your return rate is living in the past.
Amazon’s Returns and Recovery Insights page just landed on the new Seller Central, and I tested it so you don’t have to.
The first surprise is that return rate runs on a 45-day delay and is calculated from ship date, so if you look in early September, the 90-day view is showing units shipped from roughly April to mid-July.
Then there’s the badge column, which refreshes monthly while the return rate refreshes daily, and it only counts a subset of returns that excludes the ones Amazon doesn’t attribute to you, so two numbers can disagree and both be right.
The badges read like this:
🔵 High means Frequently Returned,
🔵 At Risk means you’re approaching that line,
🔵 and the new Low means Frequently Kept, which is the one you want next to your hero ASIN.
FBA return fees have their own math too, since they only apply once physical returns pass a category threshold, except in apparel and shoes where every returned item is charged, and returnless refunds don’t count toward that rate.
The Recovery tab is worth a look as well, because it shows net recovery, recovered value, and the removal and disposal fees that eat into it across Grade and Resell, and Liquidation.
You already know your formulation, your packaging, and why customers keep reordering, so understanding return metric calculation shouldn’t be required just to read a dashboard.
Now you have the shortcut, hope this saves you some time, and if you need help on Amazon after knowing this, DM me.
