Yesterday, we signed the paperwork to buy the farm.

You’d think there would be champagne popping and a lot of hubbub.

Instead, mostly I feel overwhelmed.

So much of my career was built around clearly defined metrics of success: title, team size, scale of business, customers, countries, revenue.

Building and owning something of your own is different.

There is no defined path. No promotion cycle. No scorecard telling you you’re doing it right. And the metrics of satisfaction and success are becoming very different, too.

This has been a much bigger internal transition than I anticipated.

So I’m giving myself patience. Letting the excitement, fear, gratitude, responsibility, and overwhelm exist together. Building the capacity to hold all of it without needing the moment to feel the way I thought it would.

Turns out, that’s part of the work too.

Yesterday we signed the papers. Now we get to build what this place becomes.

More on that, including a new name and brand, very soon.
