My kids have never really understood the difference between a work trip and a vacation. That's mostly my fault.
This July it was a houseboat on Voyageurs. Checking in from a camp chair on the roof, kids in the water off the back and a better cell signal than you'd expect for a US/Canadian border lake you can only reach by boat.
The setup isn't new for me. In the early Ad Advance days, we'd load up the family and go. I worked from wherever we landed whether it be campgrounds, rest stops or the passenger seat of our truck. By the time my daughter was 4, she had been to all 50 states.
Then we grew, put an office in Duluth, and that became how we worked. Right call at the time and I'd make it again. Plenty of our team still goes in every day and does their best work there.
What's different at Podean is that it's a real choice. The flexibility is less a perk here than the way you actually run a company across a dozen countries and every time zone in between.
12 years on, the setup looks about the same. The difference is now it's by design, not necessity.
