This is a red flag ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿšฉ

"For Brooklinen, we spent $400 on Amazon DSP and generated $26k in revenue, a 62.5 ROAS"

THIS is not a successful DSP campaign.

This is a campaign that is most certainly:

๐Ÿ”ถ Heavy retargeting

๐Ÿ”ถ View-through attribution

๐Ÿ”ถ Existing demand taking credit for itself

In other words:

๐Ÿ‘‰ customers who were already going to purchase

๐Ÿ‘‰ served a cheap impression

๐Ÿ‘‰ then credited back to DSP as โ€œtotal salesโ€

High ROAS โ‰  high impact.

Real DSP success shows up as:

๐Ÿ”ถ Lift in branded search

๐Ÿ”ถ Improved new-to-brand rates

๐Ÿ”ถ Category share growth

๐Ÿ”ถ Better downstream performance in Sponsored Ads

If someone leads with a tiny spend + massive ROAS and stops thereโ€ฆtheyโ€™re either COMPLETELY misunderstanding DSP, or hoping that you do.

๐Ÿ“Œ DSP isnโ€™t a retargeting flex.

Itโ€™s a full-funnel lever and it should be evaluated like one.

I will add an Intro to DSP guide for those who are interested in learning more!
