Sell, Hold, or Acquire?
Agency founders are staring down a tricky moment. Do you double down, wait it out, or take chips off the table?
Chris Fryburger at nReach shared some excellent data that cuts through the noise, and the message is clear: if you’re even thinking about selling, this window is worth paying attention to.
Here’s why:
Inflation’s not cooling the way we hoped. Hot producer data is rattling investors.
Global M&A deal volume is sliding, even while aggregate spend is propped up by bigger, selective deals.
Translation: fewer chairs at the table.
More Amazon agencies are flooding the market. Competition is rising.
Deal terms are shifting: more cash up front, but still plenty of earn outs and performance hurdles.
The Challenge?
Buyers are still active, but picky.
They’re paying premiums for agencies that bring profitability, cross channel strength, international reach, or AI-driven tools. If that’s you, you’re in the sweet spot.
Recent moves prove it:
1️⃣ Barrel Holdings picked up AO2 Management to strengthen its Amazon/retail media muscle.
2️⃣ buffaBRAND Marketing just made a play (details pending).
The window is still open to sell at peak value. But, and it’s a big but, it’s narrowing. Wait too long and you’re negotiating against a market that’s already cooling.
Agency founders: your call may not be if you sell, but when.
