I turned 35 this week, and here are a few takeaways from my life so far👇🏻
I’ve been thinking about how unpredictable life is.
Five years ago, I couldn’t have imagined living in London. We planned a baby and ended up with twins. Life has a funny way of changing your plans, quite often completely outside your control.
So a few things I’m learning:
1) Make plans, but live without expectations. The future is impossible to predict, and so much of it depends on things we can’t control. What we can control is what we do today.
2) Comparison. It’s so easy to look at someone else’s career, success or life, compare yourself to someone on Instagram without knowing what goes on behind the scenes, and feel like you’re falling behind. But you don’t know their journey or circumstances.
I think the only person it’s fair to compare myself with is who I was a few years ago. And looking back, I realise how much I’ve grown.
Keep your ego healthy. A little ego can push you forward, but when it starts feeding on comparison, it can pull you down very quickly.
3) See life as a game, full of unexpected challenges. Instead of worrying about everything that could go wrong, I’d rather focus on what I can learn, what I can do, and the good things happening around me. When I have a challenge in front of me, I try to think “ok, what can I do? How can I solve this? What help or support do I need?”

I’m incredibly grateful to my family, who see all the ups and downs behind the scenes, and to the friends and people around me who challenge me, support me and help me grow.
So here’s what I’m taking into 35. Less comparison, fewer expectations, more presence. Don’t settle, keep moving. Live your life, and don’t forget to enjoy where you are today.
