I FORGOT SOCIAL MEDIA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN.
Which is a little embarrassing considering I literally work in marketing.
But seriously, when did posting on LinkedIn become such a SERIOUS business???
Somewhere along the way, we went from sharing things we found interesting to questioning our entire existence because a post got 12 likes.
And I fear I’m guilty of it too.
Suddenly, everything needs to be calculated.
→ Is this the right time to post?
→ Will this get enough engagement?
→ Does this fit my personal brand?
→ What if the algorithm doesn’t like it?
EXHAUSTING.
And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good strategy.
But I think we’ve become so obsessed with getting social media RIGHT that we’ve forgotten we’re actually allowed to enjoy it.
Especially on LinkedIn.
Because not every post is going to perform the same.
Some will get loads of impressions
Some will reach fewer people
And some will just flop.
(We’ve all been there. Character development. 🙂)
But isn’t that literally the point of experimenting?
→ You try something.
→ You see how people respond.
→ You adjust.
→ You try something else.
And slowly, you start understanding what YOUR audience actually connects with.
Not what some LinkedIn guru told you SHOULD work.
What actually works for you AND your audience.
And honestly, I don’t want to spend my time repeating the same three content formats just because they once got me a decent engagement rate.
I want to try different angles.
Talk about things I find interesting.
Have conversations with people who see things differently.
And occasionally post something simply because I THINK IT’S FUNNY.
Even if the algorithm doesn’t agree. 🤡
And I think that’s the biggest misconception we have about LinkedIn.
That being good at it means having everything figured out.
When actually, half the fun is figuring things out as you go.
And maybe taking ourselves a LITTLE less seriously along the way.
Anywayyyy, Day 8 and the FINAL day of the #PLMLinkedInChallenge by Sophie Miller & Dayana Collazos Ibarra 💌
Now I’m curious…
When was the last time you posted something because you genuinely WANTED to, rather than because you thought it would perform well?
