Kinda cute to ghost your LinkedIn for 4 months…
and return like nothing happened.
NOW THAT I’VE GRABBED YOUR ATTENTION…
I genuinely don’t think younger me had ANY idea what she was signing up for.
I studied Advertising & Digital Marketing.
Because someone told me it was “the future” and I thought, well, sounds promising enough. 🤡
(excellent career planning, 10/10.)
Then came graduation.
And with it, the wonderful experience of discovering that apparently you need experience to get experience.
→ Over 1,000 rejection emails.
→ More barista shifts than I can count.
→ Applying for jobs I was overqualified for.
→ Getting rejected from jobs I was underqualified for.
And somewhere in between, slowly starting to wonder whether I was actually good enough for ANYTHING.
I just wanted ONE person to give me a chance.
And eventually, someone did.
I landed a receptionist job at an aesthetics clinic in London.
After all those years studying marketing.
And you know what?
I was SO happy.
Because after being told “no” more times than I could count, someone finally said yes.
And I was going to make damn sure they wouldn’t regret it.
I learned everything I could.
I asked questions.
I made mistakes.
Because, for the first time in a long time, I felt like I was actually going SOMEWHERE.
And that little receptionist job?
Well…
Three years later, I became Head of Sales & Marketing.
And somewhere along the way, I managed to close over £5.5 MILLION in sales personally.
Typing that still feels a little ridiculous.
Life is funny like that.
But here’s the plot twist.
Somewhere between all this and trying to figure out what the hell I was doing…
I fell in love with the psychology behind it all.
Why people buy.
Why they trust.
I wanted to understand the people behind the brands.
And that’s how Social Island UK eventually came into the picture.
Fast-forward to today, and I’m somehow juggling a leadership role, my own agency, speaking at industry events, and occasionally remembering that I am, in fact, a HUMAN being who should probably have hobbies.
And before anyone asks…
No, I still don’t have everything figured out.
Not even close.
I’m still changing my mind.
Still questioning things.
Still figuring s*** out as I go.
But maybe that’s the point.
And sometimes I wish I could go back and tell that younger version of me, sitting there with another rejection email open, that things were going to work out.
Anywayyyy.
That’s probably enough emotional damage for my first LinkedIn post in four months.
Consider this my very dramatic restart for the #PLMLinkedInChallenge with Pretty Little Marketer (ccing 2 queens here: Sophie Miller & Dayana Collazos Ibarra)
Now I’m curious…
Did you end up becoming the person you thought you’d be when you were younger? Or did life have completely different plans for you too?
