APPARENTLY, OUR ATTENTION SPANS ARE DEAD.

Anyway, I just watched a 13-minute TikTok.

THIRTEEN. WHOLE. MINUTES.

And not once did I think about scrolling.

The video? “Why love is f*cked for Gen Z” by Lindsiann Shi.

And as someone who works in marketing, I fear I was watching two things at once.

A genuinely interesting conversation about relationships.

AND a masterclass in storytelling.

Because EVERYTHING about it had me hooked.

The title? Made me curious.

The opening? Gave me a reason to stay.

The storytelling? Made me want to hear what came next.

And the way she brought everything together?

I WAS INVESTED.

Which got me thinking…

We’re constantly being told that people don’t have the attention span for long-form content anymore.

Keep your videos short.

Get to the point.

Cut every two seconds.

Make everything faster.

And sure, there’s a time and place for that.

But can we PLEASE stop acting like people are physically incapable of paying attention for longer than 30 seconds???

Because I don’t think people hate long content.

I think people hate feeling like their time is being wasted.

BIG DIFFERENCE.

And this is where I think so many brands get it wrong.

We’re so obsessed with HOW LONG our content should be that we forget to ask whether anyone actually CARES about what we’re saying.

A good hook might get someone to stop scrolling.

But a good STORY?

That’s what makes them forget they were scrolling in the first place.

And I fear that’s a skill no trending audio or fancy editing trick can replace.

So here’s a little appreciation post for Lindsiann Shi, because this is exactly the kind of content that reminds me why I fell in love with marketing.

Not because it was short.

Not because it followed a formula.

But because it made me FEEL something.

Day 6 of #PLMLinkedInChallenge, and today we’re celebrating someone else’s brilliant work. (ccing Sophie Miller for creating this space & Dayana Collazos Ibarra for the amazing prompts 🙂↕️)

Now I’m curious…

When was the last time a piece of content made you completely forget you were scrolling?
