Amazon just opened a door for expiry-date products.

If you sell supplements-adjacent, beauty, baby, or personal care products, there’s a small update from Amazon that could make your inventory planning a lot less stressful.

Global Warehousing and Distribution now accepts expiration-dated products, which means you can store them near the factory in Shenzhen, Shanghai, or Ningbo and replenish into US FBA when you need them, instead of sending everything over in one big bet.

If you go through the eligibility page line by line, this is what you should keep in mind:

1️⃣ Your product needs 365 days or more of remaining shelf life when you create the inbound shipment to GWD, and it needs 180 days or more when it leaves GWD for FBA, so the clock starts running the moment you book.

2️⃣ Amazon treats anything that loses effectiveness over time as expiration-dated, even if there is no date printed on the package, so it is worth checking your catalog before assuming you are exempt.

3️⃣ Meltable and heat-sensitive items like chocolate, gummies, and wax-based products are still not eligible, and the same goes for food, vitamins and supplements, and anything classified as hazmat, so a category being on the eligible list does not always mean every product inside it is.

4️⃣ Before you send anything, stranded inventory, listing issues, and missing catalog attributes can block the shipment, so those are worth cleaning up first.

5️⃣ You also need to be onboarded to Amazon Global Logistics for the cross-border leg, and the account’s primary user has to grant the Warehousing and Distribution permissions to whoever will create the shipment.

That is the whole map, and you can keep your attention on your product and your launches while the shelf-life math stays in a checklist.

Hope this saves you some time, and if you need help on Amazon after knowing this, DM me.
