Meet your first customer, it’s not human.
Shopping assistants like Alexa work like a zero sum game, you’re either in the top two or three recommendations or you’re not visible at all, which is a lot of pressure for a listing that was only meant to describe a product.
I knew about this hack for a long time, and it always felt like a sexy trick I had no practical way to use, until AI made it possible to run it at scale.
The data usually gets the most love in the marketplace where the brand started, like the US, the holy grail, the baby, while other marketplaces get a “whatever,” and that’s where it gets interesting, because data from other marketplaces influences every other marketplace.
That means optimizing must be more global than just the marketplace that gives you the most, because the ones that usually get forgotten can cause the most issues without you knowing, which is why you should optimize them too.
So to avoid any issues, you need to impress Amazon’s AI before any shopper sees a thing, that way, the system that reads everything and makes recommendations already knows your product and matches it with your customers.
I covered this in my talk at Amanordic, and here is a snippet from my presentation.
Thank you Carl Helgesson, Michael Kaiser and Stella Sedin for the invitation.
Hope this saves you some time, and if you need help on Amazon after knowing this, DM me.
