CEOs are creating the same AI problem over and over again.
And this meme explains it perfectly:
“Who are we?”
“CEOs.”
“What do we want?”
“AI!”
“AI to do what?”
“We don’t know!”
Funny? Yes.
Accurate? Also yes.
Right now, many companies are adopting AI because of organisational FOMO.
Boards are panicking.
Executives are rushing.
Teams are being told to “implement AI” before anyone clearly defines the business problem.
Then leadership wonders why nothing really changes.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
**AI will not fix broken operations.
It will scale them.**
If your workflows are messy, AI makes the chaos faster.
If your data is fragmented, AI can amplify poor decisions.
If your teams are disconnected, AI can create even more noise.
And if nobody owns the AI strategy, you can end up with dozens of tools, rising costs and very little business value.
Most companies don’t have an AI problem.
They have a foundation problem.
The companies getting real value from AI are not necessarily the ones using the most tools.
They are doing the boring work first:
Clean data
Clear ownership
Aligned teams
Standardised processes
Well defined business goals
AI is not the starting point.
AI is the multiplier.
And multipliers can be dangerous when the underlying system is broken.
The real competitive advantage in 2026 will not simply be “using AI”.
It will be building organisations that are actually ready for AI.
Because the question should not be:
“Where can we use AI?”
It should be:
“What business problem are we trying to solve, and is our organisation ready to solve it with AI?”
That shift in thinking could make all the difference.
