Most people are using Claude as a smarter chatbot.
That’s probably the least interesting thing you can do with it.
The real opportunity isn’t getting better answers.
It’s getting actual work done.
Here are 6 ways to get significantly more value from Claude:
1. Put Claude where your work happens.
Use the browser for quick questions. Use the desktop app when you need to work with local files and tools. Don’t make AI another disconnected tab.
2. Stop using the most powerful model for everything.
Haiku for speed. Sonnet for everyday work. Opus for complex problems. More intelligence isn’t always more value.
3. Match reasoning effort to the decision.
Formatting a document doesn’t need deep analysis. Evaluating a $10M investment might. Spend compute where judgment matters.
4. Stop explaining yourself repeatedly.
If you’re uploading the same files and repeating the same instructions, create a Project. Give Claude the context once and reuse it.
5. Define the output before starting.
Need a PowerPoint? A spreadsheet? A board memo?
Say that in your first instruction. Otherwise, you risk generating paragraphs you’ll have to convert into something useful.
6. Turn corrections into reusable instructions.
Every recurring mistake is an opportunity to improve the system.
Use project instructions or Skills to capture what good looks like, so your next task starts from a better baseline.
Here’s the bigger picture:
Most companies are still measuring AI by how quickly it generates answers.
They should be measuring how much work it actually eliminates.
The future isn’t better prompting. It’s better execution.
