Google is about to let shoppers build one cart across every retailer they browse.

Here's the Tea đź«– Those selling on Amazon should be paying attention...

Here's the setup. Google's Universal Cart launches early 2027. It works across

Search, Gemini, YouTube and Gmail, tracking price drops and stock across multiple retailers in a single basket.

The bit most small brands will miss: it's free. No ad spend required. Google pulls everything straight from your Merchant Centre feed.

I contributed to quoted in Simply Business this week talking about exactly this, using The Catnip Queen as the live case study.

We sell across Amazon, Shopify, eBay and Etsy. Before Universal Cart even lands, I'm already tightening our DTC pricing so it's consistent across every channel, and building out SEO aligned content so our titles and attributes get picked up cleanly by that Merchant Centre feed.

Here's the uncomfortable question for anyone Amazon first. If your product data, pricing and content aren't clean and consistent everywhere you sell, Google's new cart won't help you. It'll just surface the version of you that looks least trustworthy.

Amazon has spent years building a walled garden. Google just found a way to make every other channel look like one basket.

It's worth thinking about which side of that you're on....

What's your Merchant Centre feed like right now?

Thanks to Sabuhi Gard for the opportunity!
