This week was a reminder that “simple” technical work rarely is.
We had to migrate our server… twice.
What I expected to be a straightforward move turned into a series of unexpected issues.
Things you don’t see until you’re already deep in it.
The kind that force you to slow down, rethink assumptions, and solve problems one layer at a time. (After first yelling at the screen)
Not glamorous work. Not visible work. But critical.
A couple takeaways:
- The second time you do something isn’t always easier, it just exposes a different set of problems
- Resourcefulness beats perfect planning
By the end of it, everything was stable again.
More importantly, I understand our system at a much deeper level than I did a week ago.
A lot of building (especially right now with AI and automation) looks exciting from the outside.
But most of the real progress comes from pushing through the unplanned, frustrating parts that no one sees.
Back to it.
