Anthropic just opened custom AI agent-building to everyone. No dev team required.
You define what the agent does and what it can access. Claude runs it. Long-running background tasks, multi-step workflows, multi-agent coordination.
The bar for building automation used to be: hire a developer, set up a stack, hope it works. That bar just dropped significantly.
But here is the thing most people skip over when they get excited about a new tool.
Easier to build does not mean the security considerations go away.
If your agent touches customer data, financial records, API credentials, or any third-party account, you need to think about what it can access and what happens if something goes wrong.
Principle of least privilege applies. Only give the agent access to what it actually needs. Audit what it is doing. Keep credentials out of prompts.
Know where your data is going!
This matters even more at small scale, because small teams rarely have someone whose job it is to catch this stuff.
One simple habit if you are pushing any of this code to GitHub: add your .env files and any config files containing credentials to your .gitignore before you ever make your first commit.
That one step keeps secrets from accidentally becoming public.
Not sure what a .gitignore is or how to set one up? Ask AI (or me if you like). But seriously. That is exactly what it is good for.
