Selling in the EU? Hope you like paperwork—because Amazon, Temu, and Shein are about to enforce compliance like never before
And guess who’s about to feel the heat? (Hint: It’s sellers like us.)
In a bold move, the European Union is cracking down on marketplaces like Temu, Shein, and Amazon to ensure the safety of products sold within its borders.
For years, sellers importing into the EU were responsible for VAT, customs duties, and product safety compliance. Now? The EU wants platforms like Amazon, Temu, and Shein to take the heat by making them legally accountable for the products sold on their sites.
Does that ring a bell? We are also going to be more responsible.
Key Highlights:
• More Compliance Checks: If you sell on these platforms, expect stricter vetting of your products. Amazon & Co. won’t risk getting fined for unsafe or non-compliant goods.
• Higher Costs: With platforms handling VAT & customs duties, will they pass these costs down to sellers? Probably.
🔍 The EU’s Plan:
A new central customs authority (EUCA) will be tracking everything before products even leave for the EU, spotting potential safety risks before they hit the market.
⚠️ Reality Check:
It's a fundamental shift in how marketplaces operate. Compliance is no longer optional. If Amazon & Co. are held accountable, they’ll tighten the grip on sellers, enforcing even stricter product vetting, documentation, and regulations.
So, is this the end of cheap, non-compliant imports? Maybe.
But one thing’s clear: If you sell in the EU, you must anticipate these changes or risk being locked out.
