Amazon's variation wizard is a quirky tool. It may create parent SKUs without your input. A client found two products variated by Amazon - a first for a 3P seller. Navigating this requires the variation wizard and careful handling to avoid FBM defaults and retain FBA. Thanks, Brett.

The variation wizard on Amazon is super funky ... and clunky
Let me explain:
I just had a first, a client had their listing variated and they did not do anything. It seemed like amazon created a parent sku for them and just variated the teo products.
Let me preface this with : they absolutely should be in the same family
But the odd thing: amazon did it and its 3P
This is the first time I have seen this.
Here is how you can get the parent sku into your catalog:
1. Go to Variation wizard
2. Input the ASIN of one the products
3. Down load the sheet it gives you
4. Take the information from that sheet and create a variation on a new sheet
5. Upload that new sheet
You might ask why not just upload the variation wizard sheet - the answer : there is nowhere to change the Fulfillment Center ID in the flat file on this sheet - it automatically switches your listing to FBM and if you don't switch it back your FBA offering will be removed
