🚨 Day 3 of Amazon Accelerate Was a DUD 😢
Amazon went nuts for AI yesterday and sellers were, well, not very enthused. This is not what they have been asking for!
One thing is for certain, Amazon's executive leadership lives on a different planet. The only silver lining was the criticism from Martha Stewart. Who knows, maybe that will move the needle.
🤖 Project Amelia is a GO:
Talk about something no one asked for! The 3P selling community has asked for competent human staff for years and what does Amazon do? They launched an AI Seller Support agent named Amelia with the promise that she would solve any issue 24/7. Sorry, I just spit out my water from laughing so hard. We all know Amelia is going to be a flop. Sadly, it's going to cause confusion for sellers and most likely make catalog changes that sellers didn't ask for. I predict the rollout to be rough.
😬 Gen AI Gone Wild
As if Amelia wasn't enough, Amazon announced that they're going all in on Gen AI and will be able to create "optimized" product listings from just a few words and will analyze and spruce up your A+ content. The scary thing here is that when Gen AI makes an assumption that is wrong, who's at fault? When Amazon inevitably makes a change that results in a sudden drop in organic ranking, how will Amazon be held accountable? They won't be. It's actually quite frightening because there's no physical paper trail.
This leads me to their announcement that titles will show up differently for customers depending on their search history and other information. Organic search results will be all over the place. There will be a very real risk of de-indexing, causing massive drops in ranking. In a nutshell, expect significant errors and legal consequences.
🤓 Rich Business Data, Oh My!
This was a very bright positive from yesterday. Four new dashboard tools were announced.
Custom Analytics: Customizable dashboards to get a better handle on the performance of your business. Expect these to be very high-level snapshots.
Customer Journey Analytics: This sweet new tool is going to help you reduce acquisition costs. You will be able to identify "warm" customers with high intent to purchase. Thank you, Amazon!
Product Performance Spotlight: This is Amazon's latest sales fluctuation monitoring tool. Includes real-time analysis which is really cool. The jury is still out on how granular it will be.
Customer Return Analytics: This will give you a 30,000-foot view of all of your returns. In one place you will be able to see customer feedback for why the item was returned. This will be extremely useful for monitoring trends and making changes to product quality and packaging.
