Amazon is cracking down on inappropriate product variations and handing out warnings.
How can you reduce the risk of Amazon suddenly separating your variations?
- Ensure title uniformity among all variations
If the individual child titles are too different, it might trigger a bot to separate them.
If your products cannot be described by a single product title, then they shouldn't be variated.
- Don't choose a variation theme other than what is listed in the approved theme for each product type
These will get split eventually, usually with a policy violation.
- Don't put more than one product characteristic in a variation attribute
Again, will get split one day, with a policy violation.
- Don't variate products that have a different 'core essence'
If you're selling oils that all have different base ingredients, they should not be variated.
If you're selling a bath gel and a shampoo with the same scent, they should not be variated.
Variating in this way is considered variation misuse. It'll get you dinged sooner or later.
If you're unsure, ask yourself:
Are the products I'm variating only different in minor, specific ways that don't affect their function, core essence, or use by the customer?
