Russian combat losses in October reached a staggering 54,500 killed and wounded. In one month this approximately equals what the USSR lost in 100 months of war in Afhanistan 1980-1988.

These losses are higher than Russian Army can replace with new troops.

Ukraine also liberated more territory than was lost in October.

The Russians can attempt to negotiate from a position of strength, but their losses are staggering. And of course they know their own losses.
