Most outdoor gear returns start in-store.

Not out in the field.

When a camp chair, soft cooler, or dry bag comes back, the reason is usually a gap between what the shopper expected and what the gear actually does. Four floor habits that close that gap:

1. Put one unit on the floor open and usable. Shoppers who sit in the chair or roll the closure themselves rarely come back surprised.

2. Sign the use case, not just the spec. "Holds a full day of ice at a tournament" lands better than a fabric number on its own.

3. Log every soft goods return reason in plain words. Patterns like "smaller than expected" point straight to a fixture or signage fix.

4. Train staff on two questions: where will you use it, and how long is a typical trip?

Which return reason shows up most often in your outdoor category?
