This is the problem brands are having when launching consumable products.

A brand reached out to me mid-launch on a product they had prepared for months, with two ASINs, PPC doing its job, and sales coming in every day.

Then fulfillment stalled, with 68 orders in 9 days and only 7 shipped, while the rest sat in “Pending, Awaiting Payment Verification”.

The rest of the catalog confirmed payments within 24 hours, and the account was healthy, so on paper there was nothing to fix.

Even Seller Support treated it as a “customer problem” and sent the same cookie-cutter Voice of the Customer reply 3 times, and the longer it dragged on, the more it cost, since orders stuck in that status cancel automatically after 21 days.

Meanwhile, the ads kept running at launch speed, about $3,900 in 9 days on one ASIN, and part of it went to orders that never shipped.

The cause was a backend field left empty, one the brand never thought it needed because, for their product, it truly isn’t necessary, but for Amazon’s fulfillment system it is essential.

I wrote up how we mapped it, why the labels pointed everywhere except the real hold, and what to check when a product is selling but not shipping, all in this week’s OSS Lab case.

Hope it saves you some time, and if you ever see a “payment” problem that only hits a few ASINs, this one is worth a read.
