10 out of 10 text elements FAIL on the old Magic Spoon pack.
That is the verdict from RHINO after auditing the original packaging.
Branding circles are debating whether the new packaging lost its illustrated charm to fit into grocery aisles. Everyone has an aesthetic opinion.
I prefer data.
When RHINO audited the old pack, every single critical element came back as a contrast fail:
>MAGIC: FAIL
>SPOON: FAIL
>PROTEIN CEREAL: FAIL
>13: FAIL
>PROTEIN: FAIL
>PER SERVING: FAIL
>0: FAIL
>TOTAL: FAIL
>SUGARS: FAIL
>PER SERVING: FAIL
A complete sea of red.
Eye tracking shows shoppers fixate for only 300 to 500 milliseconds per pack, scanning visuals on shelves.
If your critical text cannot pass contrast in that glance, the message never registers.
Ditching the old low-contrast pack was a no-brainer.
One critical point for brand teams: the legacy WCAG 2 contrast ratio test is flawed.
RHINO uses APCA (Advanced Perceptual Contrast Algorithm), backed by research from Cambridge University (cedc.tools/article.html).
Readability Drives Revenue.
Magic Spoon fixed their Readability and their Revenue will follow from their new pack design
