Your best capability may be hiding in plain sight.

Your best capability may be hiding in plain sight.
One of the more encouraging findings from an Amazon agency capability audit is that the agency often does not need to invent a differentiator.
It already has one.
It is simply buried beneath generic positioning, inconsistent service packaging and a website that says much the same thing as everyone else.
For example, an agency may describe itself as:
“Full-service Amazon support for ambitious brands.”
That tells a prospective client almost nothing, but the audit may reveal that the team is particularly good at:
Improving profitability across complex Vendor Central portfolios
Helping founder-led 3P brands move from revenue growth to sustainable contribution
Managing difficult Amazon retail relationships
Diagnosing the real cause of stalled performance
Combining advertising decisions with stock, margin and commercial planning
Turning fragmented Amazon data into decisions senior stakeholders can act on
Those are valuable capabilities.
But they only become commercially useful when they are clearly defined, evidenced and connected to a specific client pain point.
The difference might be:
“We manage Amazon accounts.”
Versus:
“We help established Vendor Central brands identify where margin is leaking across their portfolio, then build the commercial and operational plan to recover it.”
One is a service description, the other is a reason to have a conversation.
This is why capability audits need to go beyond asking what services an agency offers.
They should ask:
What do clients consistently rely on you for?
Where does your team demonstrate judgement that competitors struggle to replicate?
Which problems do you solve particularly well?
What work creates the strongest commercial outcomes?
What expertise is currently underused, underpriced or hidden behind the founder?
The answer may not require a new hire, a new service line or a complete repositioning.
It may require the agency to recognise what it is already unusually good at, and stop presenting itself as a generic version of everyone else.
In a crowded market, the route to differentiation is not always becoming more capable.
Sometimes it is becoming more honest and precise about the capability you already possess.
