Just shipped a big MCP update to Catalog CLI — open-source Amazon catalog audit tool.

When AI agents ran a full audit via MCP, the response was 11.5 MB — way over the ~1 MB client limit. Agents were also confused by .xlsm files since the tool descriptions only mentioned .xlsx.

What was fixed:

• Default pagination (50 issues/query) — 11.5 MB → 77 KB

• New catalog_scan_summary tool — full audit overview in 2 KB

• .xlsm support in tool descriptions

• Structured error handling for AI agents

• Workflow guidance baked into server instructions

Building MCP tools for AI agents is different from building CLIs for humans. Agents need sensible defaults, compact responses, and clear instructions in the tool descriptions themselves. Default pagination: 11.5 MB → 77 KB (99.3% smaller)

Open Source - always free to use for your entire catalog no matter the size. If you have any questions on how to set up the MCP let me know.
