I got fired from my first sales job, now I close deals for a living.
My first job out of college was selling makeup door-to-door for an MLM.
I fell hook line and sinker for the "fact" that this would make me a millionaire.
(It cannot.)
But it was one of the best jobs I've ever had.
My job was to get 300 no's a day to get to 5 yeses.
300 no's. Every single day.
That taught me something that changed how I think about sales forever:
Hearing "no" isn't scary. It doesn't make you less of a person. It just gets you closer to your next yes.
But I also learned something else.
I couldn't close.
I'd get SO close to the deal. Right there on the edge. And then... nothing.
Because I didn't believe in the product I was selling.
Eventually I got fired.
And I promised myself I would never do sales again unless it was something I actually believed in.
So I spent the next 5 years learning how to be the best at Amazon.
I studied the platform. Learned the ads. Understood the data.
Then I decided to join sales again.
Now I'm really, really good at it.
Not because I got better at "selling."
Because I deeply understand and believe in the product we sell.
That's the difference, dog.
You can have all the techniques in the world. But if you don't believe? People can feel it.
Long live Straight Up Growth. π
