Amazon just gave sellers a new lever: multipacks without the packaging.

It looks simple. Virtual multipacks let you sell multiple units of the same ASIN as a variation, no added logistics, no added prep, just your existing FBA inventory.

Most sellers think about multipacks as an operational headache: defining proper unit counts, getting higher fees, packing and labeling.

What’s actually happening is that Amazon is using multipacks as a strategic pricing and product development tool. Here’s how it works in the pilot:

➡️ Multipacks are created automatically for selected ASINs (SKUs start with VMP_)

➡️ They appear as variations on your single unit listings starting October 13

➡️ Fulfillment fees stay the same per unit, no discounts or premiums

➡️ By default, price = unit price × pack size, but you can edit it

So yeah, Multipacks are changing cost curves. Selling a 3-pack at a modest discount can raise AOV, smooth inventory turnover, and shift your ad economics. And because these multipacks are virtual, you don’t need new packaging or different inventory commitments to test them.

For product development, the impact is equally disruptive. Instead of deciding six months in advance to launch a 6-pack, you can spin up a virtual version, monitor velocity and reviews, then decide whether to formalize it.

The experimentation cycle just got shorter, but because of the fulfilment fees, it doesn't necessarily make it cheaper than sending a consolidated pack.

Even more now that virtual multipacks are arriving, virtual bundles are becoming more visible since Amazon recently moved bundle placement higher on the page, directly under the price, making them a stronger lever for order value and visibility.

Multipacks = same ASIN, test pricing and volume, lower inventory risk

Bundles = different ASINs, raise order value, expand reach

Amazon is lowering the barrier to testing and raising the bar for catalog agility.
