Amazon made our products easier to find by rewiring how brand awareness is measured.

As of October 1, Amazon Ads began rolling out enhanced attribution for branded searches, the kind of queries that tell you whether a shopper is actively looking for your brand.

It’s a small technical update with a big strategic consequence: Amazon’s system can now better recognize when customers search using brand names, abbreviations, trademarks, or even misspellings.

Before this update, branded searches often undercounted intent. A shopper typing something like “Ralf Laoren” instead of “Ralph Lauren” or “P&G” instead of “Procter & Gamble” could slip through attribution gaps.

The result? More accurate tracking of how ads influence brand-specific intent across every region.

And we can see this impact through the five KPI Amazon recommend:

Branded searches ➡️ How often shoppers searched for your brand after an ad interaction

Branded searches from clicks ➡️ Searches triggered after an ad click

Branded searches from views ➡️ Searches triggered after an ad view

Branded search rate ➡️ Branded searches divided by ad impressions

Cost per branded search ➡️ Total ad cost divided by branded searches

These branded search metrics show us whether your ads build brand equity or just drive transactions.

With cleaner attribution, marketers can now measure real discovery, how often ads prompt shoppers to actively seek the brand later.

This refinement also means historical benchmarks will shift. Campaigns may appear to gain or lose performance, not because consumers changed, but because Amazon now counts intent with greater precision.

So for brands focused on long-term awareness, this is a quiet but foundational improvement, since the new model closes that gap by enhancing brand matching, giving advertisers a clearer picture of how campaigns drive awareness and discovery. These changes now appear in both Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC) standard attribution and custom analyses as updates roll out globally.

What I am sure after this update is that the better Amazon gets at recognizing brand intent, the clearer it becomes who’s building a brand, and who’s just buying traffic.
