(3) Search | LinkedIn

Walmart thinks that traditional search is going away.

Here's why they're wrong đŸ‘‡

First off...

AI assistants *do* excel in scenarios where traditional (lexical) search falls short due to complexity, ambiguity, or the need for iterative refinement.

This means that AI assistants will likely see higher adoption in the following shopping journeys:

-High Consideration Purchases (e.g., Electronics, Appliances, Cars)

-Personalized Gifting

-Recurring or Subscription-Based Purchases (AI can learn consumption patterns)

-Niche or Specialized Products (e.g., Vegan Cosmetics, Sustainable Fashion)

-Travel and Experience Planning (I already find myself doing this)

-Price Comparison and Deal Hunting

BUT...

Despite this laundry list of awesome Use Cases for AI assistants, traditional search will remain relevant for:

-Simple, Specific Purchases

-Brand-Loyal or Known-Item Purchases (e.g., Optimum Nutrition 2lb whey protein)

Am I wrong about this?
