Amazon just did something sellers rarely expect: it introduced a discount that can increase net proceeds.

For years, fee changes have felt like a one-way ratchet: higher costs, tighter margins, less room to maneuver. But the new FBA multi-unit fee discount for Amazon Business orders changes the math. Shoutout to James McConnell, Jr, for spotting this one.

Here’s what’s actually happening:

⬇️ If you set a 3% or greater discount on Business Pricing or Quantity Discounts

⬇️ And the order is for multiple units from a Business customer

⬇️ Amazon reduces your FBA per-unit fulfillment fees

The result? Lower fees, not just lower prices.

Take a simple example:

• Base price: $10

• Business discount (3%): -$0.30 → new price = $9.70

• Order size: 2 units, Large Standard (~1.1 lbs)

• Standard FBA fee: $4.99 per unit

• FBA fee discount: -$1.20 per unit → new fee = $3.79

👀 Normally, a 3% discount would cut into your margin. But here, the $1.20 fee reduction more than offsets the $0.30 price drop.

Net result: about $0.90 more profit per unit compared to no discount.

This matters strategically because the program rewards sellers who drive larger basket sizes, helping Amazon reduce fulfillment inefficiencies. The system aligns incentives, Amazon achieves efficiency, buyers see value, and sellers improve their margins.

What to do now depends on your role:

• If you sell low-priced items: run the math. Multi-unit discounts may turn loss leaders into profit centers.

• If you manage Business accounts: set up Business Pricing and Quantity Discounts today. Eligibility starts at 3% off, and tiered discounts drive even more fee savings.

• If you oversee operations: treat this as part of pricing strategy, not just promotion. Model how discounts interact with fulfillment fees and contribution margin.

The risk? Sellers who dismiss this as a minor program update will leave money on the table.

The opportunity? Sellers who integrate it into their pricing and inventory planning can strengthen both sales velocity and net profitability.

Amazon is signaling something broader here: efficiency and alignment are starting to matter as much as revenue growth. Sellers who optimize for both will carry the advantage forward.
