For those of you that pull Sales and Traffic details from the SP-API, I wanted to share some of the observations I’ve made from using Data Kiosk vs using the standard Reports API.

1. No need to check for status – instead, you get a notification in an SQS bucket. Request all your reports, and then run another script later to pull and process your reports.

As you add other SP-API needs to your pipeline, like pulling SQP/SCP, Inventory, Catalog details, etc, being as efficient as possible with your requests will help prevent throttling.

2. We still can’t request a date range and aggregate on ‘DATE and ‘SKU’ – this was initially what caught my interest about Data Kiosk, but unfortunately, you can still only aggregate at ASIN/SKU over a date range, or DAY/WEEK/MONTH over the catalog.

To the SP-API team – it would make our lives a LOT easier if we could get daily data per SKU over a given date range, like we can with the Ads API 😄.

3. GraphQL – It is extremely easy to work with, especially given that that they provide a really slick query builder: https://lnkd.in/grt32Pgf.

I appreciate how this allows us to define the metrics we want, rather than constantly being provided with metrics we may not want/need.

Methods like Data Kiosk and the Reports endpoint are both great for the ‘backfill’ of historical data, but after that, Rapid Retail analytics via Notifications is really the best approach for Sales and Traffic updates. This is the equivalent of Ads API Marketing Stream, where we are provided with updates to metrics in near real-time (5 minute increments): https://lnkd.in/gc-K84ZS

I made a post recently, where both Andrew Hamada 💪 and Michael Primke 💪 both mentioned alternatives to the Reporting API. This turned me on to Data Kiosk: https://lnkd.in/gBjitgEz
