Unilever introduces regional P&L accountability alongside €1 billion savings plan

What happened: Unilever announced a restructuring targeting €1 billion in savings by 2029, following the separation of its food operations.

From 2027, it will organize markets into six regional performance units with full P&L accountability. Simplification, process redesign and technology are central to the programme. Approximately €400–500 million of stranded costs from the separation must also be addressed.

Strategic implication: This is more than a cost programme. Unilever is changing decision rights and accountability to improve execution across markets.

CEO lesson: Organizational simplification only creates lasting value when P&L ownership, pricing authority, resource allocation and operational accountability are clearly aligned. Big question is it was like this years ago before central consolidations, why now?
