Your product assortment can influence how customers perceive your brand before they ever make a purchase.
And I think that's something a lot of Amazon sellers underestimate.
Jennifer and I have talked about getting into the snack category.
If we were to launch a snack brand, one of the first things we'd evaluate is how to structure the product lineup.
Would we offer individual flavors?
Variety packs?
Bundles?
Or a combination of all three?
Because there are several important considerations.
First, the economics.
If you're selling a low priced product like a bag of snacks, Amazon's fulfillment fees can take a significant percentage of your revenue.
Bundling products can help increase the total order value and potentially make the
economics more attractive.
Second, customer discovery.
A variety pack gives customers an opportunity to try multiple flavors before deciding which ones they want to purchase again.
That creates a potential path from trial purchases to larger repeat orders.
Third, brand perception.
Imagine visiting two Amazon storefronts.
One has a single snack product with one flavor.
The other has multiple flavors, thoughtful packaging, professional content, and a consistent visual identity.
Which one feels more established?
Customers don't necessarily know how long either company has been in business.
They're making judgments based on what they see.
And that's why product development and branding need to work together.
You can create a stronger first impression through your assortment, packaging, and content.
But you also need to understand the costs.
Developing additional flavors requires investment.
Testing products requires time and capital.
And every bundle needs to make financial sense after accounting for Amazon's fees.
The goal isn't to launch as many variations as possible.
It's to create a product lineup that makes sense for the customer and the business.
That's how you start building something bigger than a single product listing.
If you were launching a new consumer brand, would you prioritize a focused product lineup or more variety from the beginning?
