Brands spend months engineering retention.

Tweaking Subscribe & Save discounts. Stacking coupons. Building loyalty programs. Adjusting opt-in flows.

Here's the hard truth.

None of that moves the needle the way you think it does.

Your repurchase rate is a product quality signal. Everything else is noise.

If customers love the product, they come back. If they don't... no promotion in the world fixes that.

Here's a benchmark worth writing down.

The average basic supplement brand on Amazon sits around 25% repurchase rate. One in four customers buys again.

At 40%? That's a strong brand. Product is working. Customers are returning on their own.

Below 25%? Something's wrong. And it's probably not your coupon strategy.

When Amazon changed how Subscribe & Save appeared in listings... a lot of brands panicked. Subscriber numbers dipped. Teams scrambled.

But here's what the brands with strong products found.

Customers kept coming back anyway.

Because the subscribe button didn't make them loyal. The product did.

So before you build a retention playbook...

Check your repurchase rate first.

If you're under 25%, fix the product before you fix the promotions.

If you're at 40%+, THEN the retention infrastructure becomes a multiplier.

Order matters.

What's your current repurchase rate on Amazon, and do you know it off the top of your head?
