I uploaded one of my old celebrity interviews last week onto TikTok and the metrics showed me something I felt worth sharing with like-minded social media nerds. I’m specifically talking about the section where it tells you “when people liked this video”. Those small upticks on the graph are when Rebecca Ferguson or I make each other laugh.
That shows us something pretty simple. Your content resonates with people when they see genuine laughter. People don’t just enjoy positive content, they actively reward it by tapping the like button and engaging.
I posted about something similar a couple of years ago when I ran Pubity Group’s DadSaysJokes page and it is great to see that joy still rewards engagement a couple years later.
So what’s the take away? In the simplest of terms, humour & comedy content has an instant advantage for engagement. Even better if the people in the content are actually laughing. Maybe it’s worth putting laughter into a hook? Worth trying for sure. Plus, the actual main take away is you’re making whoever is watching your content happy 🚀
