TACoS will lie to you with a straight face.

It tells you how efficiently you're spending ad dollars.

It tells you nothing about whether your brand is actually growing.

Here's the problem.

When you optimize for TACoS, you're optimizing for the smallest bar in the chart.

You're chasing input efficiency while sacrificing the output that actually matters.

So what's the output?

Two things:

1️⃣ Brand share of keyword. Not organic rank. Not impressions. What percentage of purchases on that search term did YOUR brand win? That's the number. Organic rank is just an input to that. The share is the result.

2️⃣ Customer state. Are new customers trending up or down? Are you growing a real customer base... or just squeezing more out of the same loyal buyers you already had?

Those two numbers tell you if your Amazon business is growing.

TACoS tells you how hard your engine is working.

Not where the ship is going.

I've seen brands with beautiful TACoS and declining new customer acquisition. They looked efficient. They were actually eroding.

And by the time the returning customers started churning... the floor fell out fast.

Steering by TACoS is like watching engine RPM instead of the horizon.

The engine might be humming. Doesn't mean you're headed anywhere good.

Fix the metric. Fix the strategy.

What's the primary metric your team uses to evaluate Amazon ad performance right now?
